Mammootty finally breaks his silence on Parvathy’s cyber bullying issue over Kasaba

Malayalam actress Parvathy has been in the news for a long time over the cyber-bullying issue by Mammootty fans. The actress had expressed her disappointment at the misogyny shown in Mammootty’s film Kasaba. This annoyed fans of the Malayalam superstar who bullied her online and even issued rape threats. The Kerala Police did a crackdown and a couple of arrests have been made. It seems more people are under the scanner. It should be noted that the hate mail has reduced these days. Parvathy was seen in Qarib Qarib Single with Irrfan.

Now, Mammootty has finally broken his silence on the matter. The superstar reportedly told an online portal that he had a word with Parvathy when the controversy first started. He said he told her that cyber-bullying was one of the sad truths of modern day. Mammootty also said that social media supported the concept of freedom of expression, which was important for a democracy. He said that he could not follow the matter to the tee as he was very busy with his new project and other engagements. The superstar also denied that he had any allegiance to the online fan group that lashed out at Parvathy. He said he never told anyone to defend him.

Fans wars on social media are not new in the South. We have seen the nasty exchange of words between fans of Thala Ajith and Vijay. Few months ago, actress Rashmika Mandana was also attacked by cyber- bullies. Mammootty’s Kasaba has a dialogue where Mammootty is bad-mouthing a co-star. She had expressed her anguish at that scene.
