The Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee president Pritam Singh addressed party workers at the Congress Bhawan here at a programme held to mark the 133rd foundation day of the Indian National Congress on Thursday.
Addressing the gathering of party members on the occasion, the PCC president said that the Congress is the oldest democratic party in the world.
Stating that the party had a leading role in the struggle for national independence, the PCC president said that the Congress had played a major role in Indian independence.
He said, “Today the Congress members are passing through a difficult phase. I am sure that when those in our opposition talk of a ‘Congres-Mukt Bharat, it must pinch you. You are also aware of their dictatorial attitude.
Trying to kill an ideology is not the sign of a good mentality. The Congress members are nurturers and carriers of the party’s ideology, so are those talking of a Congres-free India attempting to snatch from us our fundamental right to live in this country?
As protectors of the Congress, considering the need of the time, we will have to stang against this challenge with all our resources,” the PCC chief told the party cadre. He further said that the Congress party had faced various challenges in the past and that the people of India had tested and seen that they can trust the party. He said that in a big organisation like Congress, it is nothing but a mini challenge.
The aim of the Congress party is to build such an India which is free of troubles and exploitation, where all citizens live in peace and prosperity like friends.
Under the leadership of its national president Rahul Gandhi, the Congress party will be able to achieve this aim, he added.
