Gcaba eager to leave Buccaneers for more playing time

2017-12-29 07:34

Cape Town - Orlando Pirates defender Ayanda Gcaba has reportedly asked the club to be released from his contract.

The 31-year-old central defender has not featured in the team this season under new head coach Milutin Sredojevic and is looking for a move in order to find some game-time.

Meanwhile, the Buccaneers have already secured the services of Chippa United full-backs Diamond Thopola and Phetso Maphanga with Thabo Rakhale offloaded to the Eastern Cape side.

According to the Star publication, an unnamed source revealed that the former Free State Stars player has already handed in a transfer request.

“Ayanda told the chairman (Irvin Khoza) that he wants to leave the club and go and find game time elsewhere,” the source claimed.

“He still loves Pirates but the problem is that he is not playing. He wants to go anywhere where he will get game time.”

Premiership minnows AmaZulu are said to be keen on Gcaba's services when the transfer window opens in January.

His agent Mike Makaab also commented on the matter.

“Gcaba is on his last six months with Pirates. If he is not going to play it is better for him to move on,” Makaab explained.

“I think that it will benefit the club if he does go because he is not playing. But we need to understand that he is under contract with Pirates.

“It all depends on what Pirates says.”
