Ludhiana: A day after the investigation wing of the income tax department (Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir) conducted raids on 15 premises of a leading
marriage palace owner of the region on suspicion of tax evasion, trouble seemed to be brewing for its clients from Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Amritsar and even some NRIs who used the palaces for marriage or other occasions.
Sources said the department has already got its hands on the mobile phone numbers of all the clients of the marriage palaces in Ludhiana and Jalandhar who hosted parties here during the last one year. Attempts are being made to get the details for the previous years too. These clients are now under the scrutiny of department. As soon as the department gets their exact addresses, clients who had not shown the expenditure of their parties or used black money to pay the bills will be sent notices.
More people could get into trouble if the owners admit to under invoicing the expenditure of the parties.
Meanwhile on the second day of raids, the I-T sleuths allowed the marriage palaces to function smoothly and parties were held at the venues as per schedule. Sources revealed that in addition to finding huge cache of documents that pointed towards tax evasion, the investigation wing also sealed six bank lockers of the owners.
Whose aircraft is that?
The mystery surrounding the microlight powered glider aircraft found in one of the premises of the group at Jalandhar has still not been solved. The owner has not been able to give evidence of its purchase and as per sources he has been given some time to come up with the documents verifying he was its legitimate owner.
