Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra will attend the Odisha lawyers’ meet in Bhubaneshwar. Around 2,000 lawyers from across the State are set to participate and likely to demand setting up the Advocates’ Academy. The meet will also discuss relating to trends in legal education and rights, privileges and interests of lawyers.
The DMK will convene a high-level committee meeting to analyse its results in the RK Nagar bypoll. It will be attended by top leaders including MK Stalin, M Kanimozhi and Duraimurugan. A three member panel has been constituted to probe the functioning of its office bearers during the bypoll.
Congress president Rahul Gandhi will visit Shimla to review the party’s performance in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections. The Congress was defeated by the BJP in the State that went to polls on November 9; it won 21 seats out of 68.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari will flag off cargo shipment through National Waterway 2 on the Brahmaputra river to promote the use of waterways for transportation of goods. The minister said the idea is to push for inland water transport and use NW2 for commercial purposes.
Independent candidate TTV Dhinakaran will be sworn in today. He won a thumping victory in the RK Nagar bypoll; the seat fell vacant after the demise of former TN Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. He is a first-time MLA.
