Cuban operator Etecsa plans to roll out a mobile banking service across the country from the start of 2018. The service is already in testing with around 20,000 customers, Etecsa director Julio Garcia told a press conference reported by Adelante.cu.

A new version of the app developed with Cuban banks will launch in Q1 2018. It's available for customers with an Android smartphone, a bank card with magnetic strip from the banks Popular de Ahorro, Credito y Comercio or Metropolitano and access to telebanking.

Services include making bank transfers, paying utility bills, and checking card and bank balances, and from Q1, buying mobile top-ups and paying taxes. Garcia said customers would not need an internet connection for all the services, and it would also work with low-speed connections.
