COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Curtis Phillips Jr., scored 17 points with 10 rebounds and made the game-winning shot at the buzzer to lift Tennessee Tech to a 69-67 Ohio Valley Conference opening win against Morehead State Thursday night.
Phillips grabbed the offensive rebound when Kajon Mack missed a short-shot attempt near the rim with three seconds left. A.J. Hicks's layup with 32 seconds remaining tied it at 67.
Morehead State used an 11-3 run in the final 2:46 to knot the score. Phillips' bucket was just one of three field goals Tech got to fall in the last four minutes.
Mason Ramsey scored 14 points for Tennessee Tech (9-5), Mack finished with 13 and Aleksa Jugovic, 10. The Golden Eagles shot 28 of 54 (52 percent) but were outrebounded 41-29. Morehead State (4-8) grabbed 14 offensive rebounds.
Jordan Walker led the Eagles with 20 points, Londell King 15, Hicks, 11 an Lamontray Harris, 10.
