A Japan ship will reach Chennai as part of a joint exercise
"After the meeting ends, both heads of the JCG and the ICG will travel to Chennai to observe a joint exercise in counter piracy activities," it said.
The exercise will be conducted by the JCG, the ICG and ReCAAP Information Sharing Centre (ISC). The Sri Lanka Coast Guard and the Maldivian Coast Guard are scheduled to participate as observers.
ReCAAP (Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia) ISC is an international organisation that promotes regional cooperation against piracy and armed robbery against ships.
Based on ReCAAP that came into effect in 2006, ISC was established in Singapore in the same year. Since its establishment, executive director and assistant director have been seconded from Japan to ReCAAP ISC, and the latter has been attached from the JCG, said the statement.
