Underlining that an attempted sacrilege incident at Pathankot few days back could have links with the Bargari sacrilege, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Wednesday demanded that it should be investigated properly to uncover the perpetrators.
“A sacrilege incident on par with what happened at Bargari village in Faridkot district in 2016 has been averted with it being revealed that a woman had stolen two swaroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib from Channi Tola village in Pathankot district last week,” said SAD spokesman Virsa Singh Valtoha.
The Akali leader said that the woman was caught because she was captured while taking out the ‘birs’ beneath her shawl from the village Gurdwara. “Subsequently, both ‘birs’ were recovered from her residence. While one was hidden in a trunk, the other was put in a makeshift storehouse for storing wheat grains,” he said.
Valtoha said that this incident made it amply clear that like in the case of the Bargari sacrilege, anti-Punjab forces were still trying to disturb the peace in Punjab and create communal tension by indulging in sacrilege cases.
He demanded that the Government should form a special task force to inquire into the Pathankot incident and verify whether its perpetrators were the same who had indulged in the Bargari sacrilege.
“It is unfortunate that the government was treating the incident lightly and had not even tried to trace the motives behind it till now,” he said.
