A 17-year-old was critically hurt by a car on Six Forks Road on Wednesday evening when he ran into traffic lanes from in front of a bus, police said.

Officers said Jesus Israel Nazario had just gotten off the bus at a stop between Ammons and Woods Ream drives. He lives on Shelly Ridge Lane, about a block from Six Forks Road, an accident report said.

Nazario came around the front of the bus, and that blocked his view of a Toyota that Daniel Dallas Baker, 70, of Pleasant Meadow Drive was driving northbound past the stopped bus.

Nazario “began running across Six Forks Road” from the curb and was hit, a police report said.

Police estimated that Baker was going about 35 mph when the car hit Nazario.

Nazario was reported in critical condition Thursday at WakeMed Hospital in Raleigh.

Traffic on northbound Six Forks was shut down for about three hours while accident investigators worked.
