A 23-year-old man has been charged with stunt driving after police say they caught him going 75 km/hr over the speed limit on the Red Hill Valley Parkway Thursday morning. 

Police say shortly after 2:30 a.m. on Thursday, they noticed a black 2009 Mercedes-Benz driving fast southbound on the Red Hill Valley Parkway at Greenhill Avenue. 

According to police, a traffic stop was conducted on the Red Hill approximately 300 metres north of the Mud Street exit ramp.

Police say they recorded the car going 165km/hr in a 90km/hr zone.

"The Hamilton Police Service continues to work towards safer streets for all as police conduct speed enforcement on our roadways," said Hamilton police in a release. 

Along with the stunt driving charge, the man's car has been impounded for a week and his licence has been suspended for a week as well. 

The driver has also been charged with failing to have an insurance card. 

Along with immediate penalties, the courts can also consider imposing the a fine between $2,000 and $10,000, driver's licence suspension up to two years and seven demerit points upon conviction of stunt driving.
