The state comptroller has approved the contract to build a new Schenectady train station, a spokeswoman said Thursday. The low bidder, Murnane Building Contractors Inc. of Plattsburgh, submitted a bid of $10,425,900 to construct the station and parking lot, install a new elevator and complete other work at the site near State Street and Erie Boulevard.
"With construction set to start next month, New York State's investment in a new and improved Schenectady Rail Station will help the Electric City continue its renewal and serve as a key economic driver for the Capital Region," Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo said. "All across New York, we are making record investments in our state's infrastructure, in the process revitalizing communities and local economies.
"Once completed, this new rail station will help attract thousands of new visitors to Schenectady and the entire region," he added.
The state attorney general's office earlier approved the contract. Completion of the station is expected by the end of 2018.
