SYCAMORE – Police are investigating an armed robbery that happened about 4 p.m. Wednesday at the BP gas station at 1615 DeKalb Ave.
The station temporarily was closed, customers were sent away and the parking lot was taped off while police searched for a man in his mid-30s wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, black pants and black baseball hat. He was wearing sunglasses at the time of the robbery, police said.
Sycamore police Cmdr. Michael Anderson said police would review surveillance video in the hopes of getting a more detailed physical description of the robber.
The suspect brandished a weapon at the clerk, Anderson said, and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.
“There was no real threat to the clerk,” Anderson said.
The suspect went behind the gas station after leaving the store, and officers canvassed the homes behind and nearby businesses, while a Genoa police K-9 unit and DeKalb County Sheriff’s deputies helped in the search. The dog briefly picked up a track, but it didn’t lead anywhere, Anderson said.
Anderson said police also would be searching the neighborhood behind the station, which is bounded by Coltonville Road and Electric Park Drive.
Anderson said anyone with information about the crime should call the Sycamore Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 815-895-3272.
