Another year is in books and it's exciting to see a brand new set of months ready for your undertaking. If you're looking to overhaul your company and bring in fresh talent, it's time to think about what roles would help you accelerate your company's growth.

LinkedIn just released an Emerging Jobs Report that highlights the most prominent skills in 2018's up and coming jobs:

  1. Management
  2. Sales
  3. Communication
  4. Marketing
  5. Start-Ups
  6. Python
  7. Software Development
  8. Analytics
  9. Cloud Computing
  10. Retail

So, why does this matter?

It shows that skills are translatable across any role. If you're in a lean startup world, you should look to hire for a few of these skill sets instead of being married to the idea that you have to have the perfect resume hire.

In fact, the report shows that some of these skills did not exist five years ago, proving that the job market is constantly evolving to meet demands. Although a clothing company may not necessarily need hires with python or analytics, they might think about hiring a website developer who can eventually implement digital marketing and analytic tactics. A person will any of these top ten translatable skill sets is deemed more valuable.

When I was looking to hire a director for my gym, I didn't know exactly what the role would entail. All I knew was that I needed them to be on their toes, adaptable, and knowledgeable. Sure, a few fitness certifications wouldn't hurt, but I needed them to be up for and excited about an ever-changing role.

My hire ended up being an incredible program director, but the skill sets we hired her for were not inherently obvious in past job experiences.

What's the takeaway? Be progressive and learn to look for skills in your new hires that may not be obvious. You never know when you need someone who can elevate your business with the skill sets they already have.
