Thursday December 27

2:30pm: Don Hutchison has urged his former club Everton to complete a January swoop for £25m-rated Besiktas forward Cenk Tosun.

He posted on social media: “I really hope Everton get Cenk Tosun. I’ve recommended him to all the managers I speak to!!!!’ What a talent!!!!!!”

2:00pm: Jurgen Klopp has told Liverpool fans to forget about Virgil van Dijk’s staggering £75m price-tag and focus on the player himself.

The Reds boss told Sky Sports: “[he is] quality. That's why we got him, that's why we were interested in him.

“It's quite difficult at the moment because technically he's still a Southampton player.

"We don't make the prices, the market does. Liverpool supporters should forget about the price.

"We only talk about the player and what he can bring in; the quality, the mentality, the character. That is why we are really happy about it."

1:15pm: Manchester United have leapfrogged Barcelona and Real Madrid to become the favourites to land Paulo Dybala.

Jose Mourinho is confident he will be able to lure Dybala to Old Trafford soon despite Juve demanding around £100m for him.

Ladbrokes are pricing United as 5/4 favourites to sign the 24-year-old with Barcelona and Real Madrid both at 2/1.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: "It looked as though Dybala was set for a move to Spain, but United now know how much they need to spend to land him, and it's unlikely Mourinho will be put off by Juve's asking price."

12:00pm: Manchester United have failed with their first attempt at landing Juventus star Paulo Dybala.

The Sun claim the Red Devils have offered Juve £70m plus Henrikh Mkhitaryan for their Argentine ace.

But it is said that the offer has been rebuffed as the Serie A champions are not looking for a new wide player.

Juventus want around £86m for their striker, the same price as Antoine Griezmann's release clause.

11:15am: Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho reportedly wants to sign Harry Kane, Dele Alli AND Paulo Dybala next summer.

Spanish outlet Don Balon claim the Red Devils are preparing a mega-money transfer spree at the end of the season.

It is said Mourinho is eyeing Tottenham duo Kane and Alli and Juventus ace Dybala.

The trio are wanted for their attacking skill and creative ability but would no doubt prove to be costly additions for United.

10:30am: Thibaut Courtois is ready to quit Chelsea and force through a move to Real Madrid.

Diario AS claim there has been no progress in the goalkeeper’s contract talks since he rejected the Blues’ offer of an improved deal in May.

It is said the 25-year-old is attracted by the prospect of playing for Los Blancos despite their move to sign Kepa Arrizabalaga from Atletico Madrid.

The report claims that Courtois would welcome a battle with Kepa for the No.1 shirt at the Bernabeu.

10:00am: Paulinho insists Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho would ‘not regret’ moving to Barcelona.

"I make jokes that people are already looking for a house for him," Paulinho said.

"I try to give him the basic information, the most important for him and his family, because maybe the time he lived here was not enough to know the city, but he knows that Barcelona is a very good city, that offers everything for him and his family.

"You have to think about the decision you are going to make. What I think is that if you have the opportunity to come, you will not regret it."

9:10am: Liverpool have overpaid for Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk, according to Gary Neville.

“It’s a lot of money isn’t it,” he told Sky Sports. “It is a lot of money and I’m not even sure he has been playing that well.

“The market has shifted to an incredible level which has shocked me. I was like, wow £75m. I was not surprised by the actual transfer but that is an incredible amount of money.

“What I can say is Liverpool need defenders. They have to pay to get him and that’s the way the market is.”

8:30am: Chelsea will square off against Bayern Munich in the race to sign Yannick Carrasco from Atletico Madrid, The Sun reports.

The La Liga side are looking at overhauling their squad and the 24-year-old is said to be heading for the exit door.

And Chelsea are eager to land him ahead of Bayern this winter.

7:50am: West Ham will make a bid of £25m for Alfie Mawson in January, The Daily Mail claim.

The 23-year-old has shone in an otherwise bleak campaign for Swansea and the Hammers have already had an £18m bid rejected.

7.00am: The race to sign Marouane Fellaini from Manchester United is hotting up - with Paris St Germain looking to take the 30-year-old, according to The Mirror.

The Belgian is out of contract at Old Trafford in the summer and is yet to agree a new deal, with Besiktas and Galatasaray also said to be keen on landing the midfielder.

10.05pm: Aleksandar Mitrovic has told Newcastle he wants to quit the club in January.

The Serbian striker, 23, is not rated by Rafa Benitez, but the manager will only sell him if he can land a replacement.

The £13m hitman, bought from Anderlecht, told Serbian publication Zurnal: "I persistently waited for the chance over the past months and I did not get it.

"I'm sorry because, after all, I loved Newcastle, but it's time for me to look more to myself, to find the best solution for my career.

"I tried to be honest with myself and my team-mates at every training and match, and the fact that I did not get a chance is simply not up to me.

“The most important thing is to find a club and finally get a chance in the field."

9.20pm: Georginio Wijnaldum has welcomed Virgil van Dijk to Liverpool.

The two know each other well from their time together in the Holland squad.

And following Liverpool's announcement over Van Dijk, the Dutch midfielder tweeted: "Welcome to LFC BIG VIRGIL".

8.40pm: Liverpool have overpaid for Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk, according to Manchester United legend and pundit Gary Neville.

“It is a lot of money and I’m not even sure he has been playing that well,” he told Sky Sports.

“I know Liverpool have wanted him for six months and they do need backup.

“He is a good defender and if they can get him back to his best then they’ll need to for £75m.

“The market has shifted to an incredible level which has shocked me. I was like, wow £75m. I was not surprised by the actual transfer but that is an incredible amount of money.

“What I can say is Liverpool need defenders. They have to pay to get him and that’s the way the market is.”

8.05pm: Sandro Ramirez could be on his way out of Everton after Valencia showed interest in the Toffees flop.

Valencia have been in talks with Everton for the 22-year-old but an agreement has not been reached yet, reports Spanish newspaper AS.

Sam Allardyce is not keen on letting him go permanently, and a loan move looks more likely.

7.15pm: Virgil van Dijk has spoken out on his Liverpool move, posting a message on Instagram and Twitter.

He said: "Delighted and honoured to have agreed to become a Liverpool FC player! Today is a proud day for me and my family as I join one of the biggest clubs in world football!

"I can’t wait to pull on the famous red shirt for the first time in front of the Kop and will give everything I have to try and help this great club achieve something special in the years to come.

"I would also like to take this opportunity to say thank you to Les Reed, the board, manager, players, fans and everyone at Southampton.

"I will always be indebted to the club for giving me the opportunity to play in the Premier League and despite a difficult last few months I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Saints and have made friends for life at the club. Thank you for everything.

"Thank you for all the messages of support. I’m now looking forward to meeting my new team-mates and getting started."

6.15pm: Liverpool and Southampton have now confirmed a deal has been agreed for Virgil van Dijk.

The Reds have sorted terms with the player and his parent club ahead of January 1.

Van Dijk will wear the No.4 shirt at Anfield.

5.50pm: Van Dijk's switch to Liverpool could be announced as soon as TONIGHT.

The Times' Paul Joyce claims Southampton and the Reds are set to speak out later on the proposed transfer.

The 26-year-old has apparently undergone a medical today.

Van Dijk will then become a Liverpool player officially on January 1.

5.25pm: Liverpool have won the race for Southampton centre-half Virgil van Dijk.

According to The Telegraph, Manchester City and Chelsea have been beaten to the Dutchman.

The Reds have agreed a world-record fee for a defender of £75m to land Jurgen Klopp’s top target.

Following discreet negotiations over the past few days, an agreement has today been reached.

Van Dijk is set to earn £180,000 a week at Anfield.

Barring any late major bid from a rival, Liverpool have landed their man ahead of the January transfer window.

4.35pm: Manchester United will have to fork out closer to £140m for Juventus to consider selling Paulo Dybala.

Starsport understands Mourinho is confident of luring the 24-year-old to Old Trafford next summer, and it is thought United believe they can secure a £60m deal with Juventus.

However, The Independent claim Juventus have privately made suitors aware any negotiations would need to start at £140m.

In Turin, there is apparently an understanding Dybala won’t leave any time soon, especially for a relatively low fee.

A future move to the Premier League would entice Dybala, but there is no rush to leave Juventus, with a January exit ruled out.

And the club would also anticipate a bidding war to help drive up the price, with Real Madrid and Barcelona admirers too.

3.45pm: Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has no right to whinge with his “£300m is not enough to compete” moan.

A smiling Wenger said: “I have been in that position for 21 years so I can’t start to complain now. There have always been three or four teams richer than I am.

“I’ve learned to cope with that. We deal with our own situation as well as we can. Man City, Chelsea and Man United are all richer than us.

“You just have to find ways to be successful.”

3.15pm: Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini is a transfer target for PSG.

Starsport understands United have offered a take-it-or-leave-it £150,000-a-week contract to the 30-year-old.

But with his deal running down ahead of the summer, he could snub their proposal with plenty of other clubs sniffing around.

Besiktas are interested in him but PSG are in the running too.

La Libre Belgique claim the French giants are looking for midfield reinforcements and Fellaini fits the bill.

Lassana Diarra is said to be their No.1 target and he is available on a free transfer but La Libre add any arrival of the ex-Arsenal and Chelsea man wouldn’t end PSG’s interest in Fellaini.

2pm: Real Madrid are ready to cool their interest in Chelsea star Eden Hazard.

Spanish media outlet Don Balon say Real supremo Florentino Perez wasn’t impressed with the midfielder’s gushing praise for Lionel Messi.

Hazard has been a long-term target for Zinedine Zidane, but it’s suggested Real are reluctant to lose face and might now turn their attention elsewhere.

"Of course, when you are playing football you want to play against the best,” Hazard said on Chelsea TV.

“The best team, the best players in the world. Messi is the best player in the world."
