Police identify Berks homicide victim, arrest suspect

COLEBROOKDALE >> Police have identified a victim and made an arrest in a homicide that happened early Thursday morning.

The victim was identifid as 58-year-old Stephen J. Kriebel.

Police said in a release Thursday that at approximately 6:48 a.m., a 32-year-old suspect, who has not been named by police, broke into a residence at 114 Cleaver School Road and made his way into the second floor bedroom. Once there, the suspect struck Kriebel with the blunt object as Kriebel was in bed. The suspect then shot Kriebel multiple times, according to police. The suspect then fled in a vehicle.

Colebrookdale Police were dispatched and a vehicle description was broadcast to all police departments.

Boyertown Police found the vehicle and following a brief foot chase, police took the suspect into custody, police said.

Pennsylvania State Police were notified and are currently handling the investigation, which authorities say spans multiple jurisdictions.
