Dec. 28 (UPI) -- With a new tool, Facebook users can now check to see if they saw Russian ads during the 2016 U.S. presidential campaign.

The tool allows users to see if they "liked" or followed any pages or accounts on Facebook and Instagram from a Russian agency to post suspected propaganda.

Facebook announced the tool last month and launched the new portal last week.

In its announcement, Facebook said it planned to show users what Russian-based pages or accounts they interacted with between January 2015 and August 2017.

"It is important that people understand how foreign actors tried to sow division and mistrust using Facebook before and after the 2016 US election," Facebook said. "That's why as we have discovered information, we have continually come forward to share it publicly and have provided it to congressional investigators. And it's also why we're building the tool we are announcing today."

By accessing the portal, users can log into their accounts and see if any interactions on Facebook were created by the Internet Research Agency, the Russian company revealed to be a troll farm after last year's election.

"We are taking action to be more transparent about the foreign interference in the 2016 US Elections," the Facebook tool says on its main page. "We've taken down fake accounts and Pages by the Internet Research Agency and have shared this information with Congress."

The tool is only available on desktop computers.
