Beaufort needs jetty for flood operations

BEAUFORT: Beaufort needs a jetty to ease rescue operations and evacuation of flood victims in the district.

District Officer Mohd Shaid Othman said, at present, the nearest jetty available was the fishermen jetty in Weston, about 36 km from Beaufort town.

"It takes a long time to send aid, especially food supplies to victims in flood-hit areas.

"I have submitted the request (for a jetty) to the government and hope this matter will be given immediate attention," he told reporters after visiting flood-prone areas with members of the Sabah Civil Defence Force here today.

Mohd Shaid said several suitable locations had been identified for the construction of the jetty, which could also be used for tourism purposes. — Bernama
