As you're celebrating the New Year this weekend, prepare yourselves for freezing temperatures.

An arctic air mass from Canada will arrive in the Coastal Bend on Sunday night, according to the National Weather Service — Corpus Christi.

Tyler Castillo, a meteorologist with the service, said the air mass will drop temperatures to the upper 20s the evening of New Year's Eve.

"We are looking at temperatures reaching the the upper 30s to low 40s Monday and Tuesday," Castillo said. "We will start to see temperatures rise in the low 50s by Wednesday."

But if you're looking to start the new year with a chance of snow, don't get your hopes up.

Castillo said that there will be a 40 to 50 percent chance of precipitation in the area, but by the time the arctic air mass arrives, the precipitation will be offshore.
