Goa: Lecture on 'Do we need man in Space?' at National Institute of Oceanography

PANAJI: There has been remarkable progress by putting telescopes and manned station in space. However, do we need man in space to explore universe?

A public lecture on 'Space Exploration: Do We Need Man in Space?' by an eminent scientist, Dr PS Goel, Dr Raja Ramanna Chair Professor at NIAS, Honorary Distinguished Professor, ISRO HQ, Bengaluru will discuss issues related to man in space that include science, technology, national pride and image.


There are many intertwined issues like policy guiding technology and technology guiding the policy that the talk will highlight. It will be held on January 1 at 11.30 am at the Goa-based National Institute of Oceanography (NIO), Dona Paula.


NIO will observe its 52nd Foundation Day on January 1. The institute's doors will remain open for public from 9.30 am to 11 am to visit the marine aquarium that simulates the coral ecosystem with its colourful fish, models of research ships, exhibits of instruments used for oceanographic research, specimens of marine minerals rich in metals such as iron, manganese, copper, nickel, cobalt, and artefacts found by divers from ancient shipwrecks and marine archaeological sites, as well as films on ocean science.
