STAMFORD - After receiving information of an alleged impending drug deal, city police arrested two suspects and charges are pending against a third.
Stamford Police Capt. Richard Conklin said officers received information that Raymond Delgado, 25, of Bridgeport, was planning to make a drug sale Tuesday evening on Henry Street. A description of the vehicle Delgado would be driving was also given, he said.
Investigators with the Narcotics and Organized Crime divisions set up in the area, Conklin said, and waited for the vehicle to arrive.
Once parked, Conklin said officers approached the gray Chrysler 300, identified themselves and demanded Delgado exit the vehicle. Conklin said Delgado refused, instead locking the doors and declining to roll down the window.
Officers then broke out the driver’s side window, opened the door and removed Delgado from the vehicle, he said.
A search of Delgado’s person allegedly turned up a folded $20 bill that contained approximately one gram of suspected cocaine and $337 in cash. Delgado was then taken into custody.
A second suspect, identified as Dashawn Newby, 32, of Bridgeport, was also removed from the vehicle.
Conklin said officers searched Newby’s person, allegedly finding a loaded .22-caliber Walther semi-automatic pistol. Conklin said the gun was loaded with eight bullets. Newby has a valid gun permit, he said.
Before the bust, Conklin said investigators had been warned that Delgado traveled with an armed associate who served as protection during drug sales.
Officers seized the pistol, Conklin said, and placed Newby under arrest. The captain said investigators would hand the seized weapon and case information over to Connecticut State Police in an effort to permanently revoke Newby’s gun permit.
Investigators then searched the vehicle, allegedly finding approximately 11 grams of cocaine in the rear passenger area of the vehicle.
A woman and her 5-year-old daughter were also in the vehicle, Conklin said, adding investigators have notified the Department of Children and Families and filed a neglect complaint against the woman.
The woman and child were released, he said, and charges against the woman are pending.
Delgado was charged with possession of narcotics, sale of certain illegal drugs, two counts of conspiracy to commit a crime, interfering with an officer/resisting arrest and risk of injury to a child.
Newby was charged with possession of narcotics, sale of certain illegal drugs and two counts of conspiracy to commit a crime.
