Dine out on New Year's Eve: Toast 2018 with truffles, panna cotta, oysters, sparkling wines




What better way to ring in a new year than with a toast? A cocktail, perhaps, or maybe even some breakfast toast.

Pittsburgh has plenty of dining options for New Year’s Eve on Sunday. Here’s a sampling that will help you plan your final evening of this year. Note that some of these options offer a literal midnight toast, while others might require you to toast 2018 a little earlier in the day.

Acorn: A six-course dinner will be served in two seatings — one at 5:30 p.m. and the other at 8 p.m. The menu includes squid ink cannaroni with lobster and Rohan duck roasted with blood oranges and prunes. $75, available at exploretock.com/acornpgh. 5528 Walnut St., Shadyside; 412-530-5950; acornpgh.com. Bahama Breeze: The chain restaurant, which has a location in Robinson, will hold a Caribbean-inspired Junkanoo celebration, commemorating street parades held in the Bahamas, with live music and giveaways. 6100 Robinson Centre Drive; 412-788-5790; bahamabreeze.com. Toast to 2018: $2.18 cocktails all day from the Legendary Island Cocktail Menu with five drinks, including the Goombay Smash (Cruzan Coconut, Spired and Bacardi Black rums mixed with fresh orange and pineapple juice) and the Dark ’n Stormy (Gosling’s Black Seal Rum with ginger beer).

Braddock’s Pittsburgh Brasserie: Five-course dinner with lobster cream soup, salad nicoise, mussels, foie gras, charcuterie, and entree choices of beef filet with cremini mushroom puree and bone marrow lyonnaise, halibut with golden beet roots and potato crisp, or tagliatelle with lamb and Swiss chard. Cure: The six-course menu highlights the restaurant’s standout dishes, including beef tartare, foie macarons and charcoal-roasted pork. Ditka’s: The Robinson restaurant has a special New Year’s Eve menu with choices of starters, soups, salads, entrees and sides, each sold separately. Eddie V’s: Starting at 10 p.m., the V Lounge will serve Moet champagnes by the glass, a complimentary dessert bar, midnight toast, $8 chef’s teasers and oyster menu. Fl.2: The new dining concept at Downtown’s Fairmont Pittsburgh hotel offers both brunch and dinner on New Year’s Eve. Brunch is the restaurant’s standard Sunday brunch menu, while dinner options will include filet, lobster, duck confit, house-made pasta with caviar and bone marrow with marshmallow. 510 Market St.; 412-773-8848; fl2pgh.com. FlowerHouse: The Wilkinsburg art center is hosting “Cupcakes & Cocktails,” a New Year’s Eve brunch buffet with signature cupcakes and specialty cocktails, plus an art exhibit. Lidia’s Pittsburgh: The $50 per person dinner at the Strip District restaurant from 4:30 to 10 p.m. includes an antipasto (choose one from pork sausage with lentils, shrimp salad, octopus salad or apple and radicchio salad), pasta (pappardelle with shiitake and pork, chicken and spinach ravioli), entree (choose one from beef tenderloin, yellowfin tuna, pork chops or lasagna with ricotta and mozzarella). 1400 Smallman St.; 412-552-0150; lidias-pittsburgh.com. Lola Bistro: Take your choice of three nights. Lola is serving a special prix fixe menu from 5 to 10 p.m. Friday through Sunday. The menu includes smoked trout mousse blini roll, signature lime Caesar salad, entree choices of Scottish salmon with herbed risotto and apple slaw or caramelle pasta with braised beef short rib and Parmesan jus, and dessert choices of pear torte or chocolate cake. $40. 1100 Galveston Ave., North Side; 412-322-1106; lola-bistro.com. Melting Pot: Entree course packages include New Year’s Delight (lobster tail, filet mignon, teriyaki marinated sirloin, mojo shrimp, garlic chili chicken, wild mushroom sachetti and winter vegetable medley) or New Year’s Celebration (Memphis-style barbeque pork medallion, filet mignon, teriyaki marinated sirloin, black angus sirloin, garlic chili chicken, mascarpone and sun-dried tomato ravioli and winter vegetable medley). The five-course dinner includes a surf and turf entree of dry-aged braised short rib with truffle sauce, potato dauphinois, butter-poached and wood-fired lobster tail, caviar cream and charred greens. Revel + Roost: There’s a bit of everything available at this two-level Market Square restaurant. A ticket for the eve celebration ($50 online, $75 at the door, ages 21 and up only) includes open bar and dance floors with music starting at 9 p.m. Guests can also choose to upgrade to a 9 p.m. prix fixe dinner ($150) along with the party. Six Penn Kitchen: Specials include an appetizer and two entree choices. The appetizer consists of seared foie gras with cranberry gel, zucchini bread, and apple and raisin salad for $15. The surf ’n turf entree is grilled filet of beef with crab cake, wilted greens, marrow hollandaise and scalloped potato for $40. Smallman Galley: Four-course meal from Duncan St Dinners (duncanstdinners.com) served between 6:30 and 9 p.m. The menu works traditional New Year’s Eve foods, sauerkraut and pork, into the evening in the form of crispy pig ear and sauerkraut salad for the salad course and pork tenderloin with roasted potatoes and herb-roasted cauliflower for the main course. Spork: Get your choice of a regular or vegetarian menu from 4 to 10 p.m. The regular menu includes sweet potato gnocchi, jumbo lump crab souffle, arugula salad with smoked root vegetables and lobster, beef deckle with winter truffles, and chocolate orange bombe for dessert. Superior Motors: Chef Kevin Sousa’s first NYE dinner at his Braddock restaurant will feature a five-course prix fixe menu in two seatings: 5 to 9 p.m. for $125 per person, or 9 p.m. to midnight for $135 per person (includes a champagne toast).
