New Delhi, Dec 27: The Lok Sabha was adjourned amid ruckus on Wednesday after opposition parties protested against the mistreatment given to Kulbhushan Jadhav’s wife and mother by Pakistan. Congress condemned the way Kulbhushan Jadhav’s wife and mother in Lok Sabha, while External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said she will make a statement on the issue on Thursday.
“We condemn the way Kulbhushan Jadhav’s mother and wife were treated in Pakistan. Kulbhushan Jadhav should be brought back to the country,” Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge said in Lok Sabha. Responding to Congress party’s demand, Union Minister Sushma Swaraj said, “I will be making a statement in the House on this issue tomorrow.”
Before being let in for meeting Kulbhushan Jadhav at the Foreign Office building in Islamabad on Monday, Pakistani authorities made his wife and mother remove their mangalsutra, bangles and bindi and also made them change their attire, India said on Tuesday, slamming the meeting as “lacking in credibility” and “intimidating”.
“Under the pretext of security precautions, the cultural and religious sensibilities of family members were disregarded. This included removal of mangalsutra, bangles and bindi, as well as a change in attire that was not warranted by security,” India said in a statement.
Earlier today, the Lok Sabha was adjourned till noon within a few minutes after it met following a four-day long break. Congress members raised the issue of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s comments on his predecessor Manmohan Singh and demanded an apology from him once again.
