Staff Reports

The New Smyrna Quarter Midget Racing Association will play host to the 16th running of the Little New Smyrna 500 from Thursday through Saturday.

More than 100 participants representing nearly a dozen states are expected to compete in the three-day, quarter midget event on the track in the New Smyrna Speedway infield.

Competitors will range in age from 5 to 16 years old and be representing states as far away as New Jersey and Ohio.

“Many of these young drivers will be a part of the future of auto racing, as they continue to hone their abilities right here in our back yard,” said Randy Dye, a local car dealer who helps organize and sponsor the event.

“The Little 500 is the culmination of a years’ worth of achievement by these young athletes and I would encourage all local race fans to come witness the skills that will be on display.”

There is no charge to watch the races.
