Aadi Mahotsav 2017 entices Bhopalites

The 300-year-old traditional jewellery of Himachal Pradesh is catching the eyes of shopaholics of the city at Aadi Mahotsav 2017 being put up at Bhopal Haat.

Apart from various beautiful artifacts from the tribes from across the country, a lady from Himachal Pradesh has brought imitation jewellery that narrates the tale of 300-year-old tradition.

The vendor Sulekha while talking to The Pioneer said, “These jewellery items have been designed keeping in mind the contemporary use of imitation jewellery but keeping intact the old tradition.” Elaborating further, she said, “The carvings on these necklaces are the ones which used to done during the times of Rajas and Maharajas.”

The big stone in between of the necklace is designed beautifully with the carvings of Himachali hymns, mantras, sun, moon and the old traditional designs in Himachali language. The designs look beautiful.

“It has nothing to do with the body senses, but with the tradition of Himachal Pradesh ornaments,” she added. There are imitation pieces worth Rs 5000 at the stall. The pieces are designed with stones of vibrant colours like the red, velvet red, ocean blue and ocean green.

The Aadi Mahaotsav is being organised by the, Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India Limited (TRIFED), Ministry of Tribal Affairs Government of India New Delhi. This craft mela is all about handloom material and people of Bhopal explores the various vibrant colours of India. Bhopal Haat is furnished with the cultures of Gujarat, Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Orissa, Madhya Pradesh, Banaras, West Bengal, Ranchi, Kolkata and Uttar Pradesh.

Apart from the stalls displaying the artifacts, the shoppers are treated with tribal dance and music every evening at Bhopal Haat.
