Odisha’s robust regional party Biju Janata Dal (BJD) celebrated its 20th foundation day on Tuesday here in the holy city of Lord Jaganath with its untiring supremo Naveen Patnaik expressing his indebtedness to the people of the State for continuing to repose their faith in the party and stating that the two-decade-old BJD has turned into a social movement.

Addressing thousands of party workers and leaders who came from all across the State to participate in the function held at the Talabania ground, Patnaik advised them to serve people by following the principle of “simple living and high thinking” in their life.

“Simplicity has its own power which connects to masses. In the words of Dr Kalam, truth and simplicity is self-maintained without any cost. Simplicity is paramount in public life. It should be our motto in life. So, address people’s problems with a sympathetic attitude. People are our ultimate master. So, serve them with all humility and fulfil the promises made to them,” Patnaik told party workers.

Between service and power, the former is the way to get closer to people. Thus, serve people and make space in their hearts, he advised.

Patnaik also invoked the Father of the Nation. “People’s love for Mahatma Gandhi has made him immortal.

The love of crores of Odias for Bijubabu has made him great too. Power, prestige and property are insignificant as compared to people’s love,” he said.
