NEW DELHI: The Uttar Pradesh government will set up a 24X7 phone helpline that will seek to ensure a "better experience" for foreign as well as domestic tourists visiting the state, a plan document prepared for the purpose said.

The helpline is expected to come up in about three months, officials have told ET. The move comes amid recent incidents in which some foreign tourists were assaulted, which raised concerns over the state's law and order situation.

The objective of the helpline is to create a round the clock presence and support for all tourists, the document said. "The helpline will also cater to tourism-related information on cultural tourism, youth tourism, pilgrimage tourism, eco tourism, cultural heritage tourism and medical tourism, and help in any online bookings," the document said.

The helpline is expected to function like a one-stop solution for any problem faced by foreign and domestic tourists. It will be operated like a call centre and will also provide information related to tour and packages, accommodation and modes of transport.

Earlier this month, some French tourists were allegedly assaulted by a group of locals in Mirzapur, which led to the arrest of eight people. In October, a Swiss couple was assaulted in Fathepur Sikri near Agra.
