The Odisha Government Junior Lecturers' Forum held a meeting here on Sunday to discuss the ramifications of the bifurcation of +2 and +3 education in the State and said that they possess requisite qualifications for placement in degree colleges.
The forum welcomed the process of bifurcation as it would improve the quality of education at both levels and enable the Government to receive Central grants under RMSA and RUSA.
It was discussed that the junior lecturers were recruited through the OPSC and appointed under the Higher Education Department and they possess the requisite qualifications to be placed as lecturers in degree colleges.
Around 500 highly qualified Junior Lecturers are working in different Government junior colleges, and with many years of teaching experience they constitute a valuable resource which can be utilisied for enhancement of teaching in degree colleges.
At present, 933 posts of Lecturers are lying vacant in degree colleges which have to rely on the sporadic services of under-qualified and inexperienced guest faculty.
It was unanimously agreed upon to appeal to the Government to promote the existing 500-odd Junior Lecturers working in junior colleges to the 933 vacant posts of Lecturers in degree colleges for enhancement of teaching and research in degree colleges.
