A Rehoboth Beach man was arrested on charges of driving under the influence and failing to stop for police early Friday morning.

On Dec. 22, around 1 a.m., an RBPD officer saw 26-year-old Cruz Ramos run a stop sign at Bayard Avenue and Norfolk Street. The officer attempted to pull him over, activating his lights and sirens, but Ramos fled recklessly, driving at speeds well over the posted limit, disregarding stop signs and failing to signal for turns. 

The officer briefly lost sight of Ramos but soon found him parked in the third block of Laurel Street, reclined in the driver's seat. He also detected the odors of marijuana and alcohol. Ramos showed signs of intoxication. 

Ramos was charged with felony disregarding a police officer's signal, driving under the influence of a combination of alcohol and a drug and a slew of traffic violations. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $1,208 secured bail.
