The holiday week schedule was fairly light, but there were still a few results that shook up the top 10 in the USA TODAY Sports men’s basketball coaches poll.
Villanova will head into the new year with the No. 1 ranking. The Wildcats, who picked up 27 of 32 first-place votes this week, are one of only three remaining unbeaten teams. Michigan State remains No. 2, claiming the remaining five No. 1 nods. Duke holds steady at No. 3.

Arizona State is now No. 4 alone. The Sun Devils, the second of the remaining unbeatens, maintains its highest ranking since USA TODAY began administering the coaches poll. Xavier moves up to No. 5, giving the Big East two top-five teams with the start of conference play around the corner. The third undefeated squad, TCU, climbs to No. 8, also its highest ranking ever by the coaches.
North Carolina fell from a tie for fourth all the way to No. 14 following its home loss to Wofford. Miami (Fla.), which sustained its first loss of the campaign but managed a third-place finish at the Diamond Head Classic in Hawaii, dropped to No. 16. Also falling from the top 10 was Kentucky. The Wildcats are now at No. 15 after a loss to UCLA.
