Universal Health Services buying Mississippi psychiatric hospital

Universal Health Services Inc., of King of Prussia, said it will buy a 109-bed behavioral health facility with two outpatient clinics in Gulfport, Miss. The price was not disclosed.

The seller is the nonprofit Memorial Hospital at Gulfport, which had an operating loss of $9.4 million on revenue of $484 million in the 12 months ended Sept. 30, 2017.

Annual operating losses at Memorial Behavioral Health ranged from $3.7 million to $4.8 million in recent years, according to an article in the (Gulfport, Miss.) Sun Herald last year.

Memorial Behavioral provides services for adults, adolescents, and children.

Universal, which has $3.7 billion in behavioral health revenue in the nine months ended Sept. 30, said it expected to complete the purchase by the end of March.
