62-year-old Lawrence E, Cassidy, Sr., survived for over 15 hours.
The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred on Friday, Dec. 22, at the intersection of Airport at Old Landing Roads in Rehoboth Beach.
Around 7 p.m., a Rehoboth Beach man was operating a 2008 Honda Accord, traveling northbound on Airport Road and approaching the intersection at Old Landing Road. For unknown reasons, he failed to stop at the posted stop sign and struck a street sign and a tree. He then left his vehicle and fled the scene prior to police arrival. It is unknown if impairment was a contributing factor in the incident.
The next day, Saturday, Dec. 23, 62-year-old Lawrence E. Cassidy, Sr., collapsed at his residence and was pronounced dead by EMS around 10:30 a.m. Cassidy was determined to be the driver in Friday's crash, and an autopsy determined that he died as a result of injuries sustained in that crash.
The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident.
