The Planning Authority (PA) has ordered the owners of two fields to stop dumping 'bajjad' material (a type of soil) on two fields in Gozo.
Planning Authority employees had conducted on-site inspections on two areas where truckloads of material were being dumped in Gozo, to check whether there are any valid permits allowing such action.
"It resulted that 'il-bajjad' material (which is a type of soil) was being dumped on existing soil. The Authority informed the respective owners that the placing of this type of material still required development permission. Works were ordered to stopped and for respective development applications to be submitted to the Authority within 7 days. Further action will be taken if no applications are submitted," PA officials told The Malta Independent.
Residents had called this newsroom and expressed concern over the situation in the two fields as they noticed such activity on boxing day. One of the fields is located under Salvatur hill in Gozo, and the other field is located between Xaghra cemetery and Victoria, Gozo (the last photo at the bottom of this article).
The Planning Authority mapserver however, did not show any plans for the construction of a car park or anything of the sort on the Salvatur hill area site.
