It was claimed yesterday that Brighton and Celtic had agreed an £18m fee for the striker.
But Brendan Rodgers said earlier today that is not the case.
And speaking after his Albion side lost 2-0 at Chelsea, Hughton revealed the same information.
"I've heard reports," he said. "As manager of this football club, I'm quite sure I'd know.
"There's been no contact between the two clubs.
"That's speculation. There are numerous names that are cropping up, thick and fast.

Rodgers had earlier said: "I haven't been informed about anything from the club. It is all part of the modern game.
"There will be interest, of course, but there is nothing in it."

Former Fleet Street journalist Ian McGarry says Celtic WANT to sell Dembele.
Speaking on The Transfer Window Podcast, he said: “Moussa Dembele - I know from information and am convinced Celtic will sell in January if they can.
“The reason for that is Dembele is not the same hot property he was this time last year or indeed six months ago when clubs were offering in excess of £20m and there was a queue.
“I think that’s because the player himself has suffered some minor injuries and his form and goals have tailed off a bit and I think Celtic are making a business decision to market the player in this January window in the hope they can get around the £26-£27m I’m told they are asking for."
