Aston Villa transfer news: Ulloa likely, FFP concerns, two exits possible, Man Utd deal?

ASTON VILLA transfer special - what is happening at Villa Park next month?

Aston Villa transfer special: Ulloa likely, FFP concerns, two exits possibleGETTY

Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce

It’s been a solid first half of the season for Aston Villa but they will have to kick on if they are to achieve automatic promotion.

Steve Bruce was under pressure in the opening weeks of the season but a 3-0 win at in September sparked a fine run of form.

Bruce had to box clever in last summer’s transfer market due to Financial Fair Play concerns but John Terry, Glenn Whelan and Ahmed Elmohamady have proved inspired additions.

He will be limited to what he can spend when the window reopens next month so it could be a tricky month for the Villa boss.

A big five months lie ahead for the Villans.

What do Aston Villa need in January?

A striker.

Jonathan Kodjia is set to miss most of the season, Scott Hogan is not firing while it would be unfair to pin their hopes on 19-year-old Keinan Davis.

But good strikers cost money, which Villa don’t have.

Leicester City striker Leonardo Ulloa

Who should Aston Villa sign in January?

loanee James Wilson would be an interesting gamble - he has the pace and finishing ability to make an impact.

Sunderland loanee Lewis Grabban would be great but he’s out of Villa’s price range.

midfielder Marko Grujic has been linked and he could prove a decent addition on loan.

Grujic would offer something different to the likes of Whelan and Mile Jedinak, while he would challenge Conor Hourihane to stay on top of his game.

Tying up a permanent deal for loanee Sam Johnstone would be the icing on the cake.

Aston Villa defender Ritchie De Laet

Who will Aston Villa probably sign in January?

A loan move for ’s Leonardo Ulloa could be the deal that happens.

He is proven in the Championship, holds the ball up well and would probably be available.

Will Aston Villa lose anyone in January?

Ritchie De Laet and Birkir Bjarnason have barely featured this season - they could fancy loan moves.

Who do Aston Villa need to get rid of?

Bruce would be foolish to get rid of anyone.

While De Laet and Bjarnason are on the fringes, you need a big squad to cope with the demands of playing Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday-Tuesday in the Championship.
