Mumbai: Four arrested for betting on Ind-SL T20 match

Mumbai: The Thane crime branch have arrested four bookies on Monday for betting heavily on T20 India-Sri Lanka match which was played at Wankhede stadium on Sunday.

The betting was mainly conducted through an online website.Hiramal Talreja(55) his brother Mukesh Talreja (52), Hiramal ‘s son Anil Talreja (26) and their accomplice Kamlesh Lakhiyani (44) have been arrested from a rented flat at Mahavir River valley building at Khakapada at Kalyan in a joint raid carried out by the Khadakpada police and the Thane crime branch.

According to Abhishek Trimukhe,Deputy Commissioner of Police,Thane crime branch, “Based on a tip-off, the accused have been arrested for betting.We have received the information regarding other bookies who are involved with the Talrejas.The matter is being investigated further to trace the accomplices. We have seized rupees one lakh cash from the accused.”


The police believe that the Talreja’s have connections with bookies in Dubai. 15 mobile phones along with sim cards, laptops and cash worth Rs 3.29 lakhs have been seized.
