Big haul of contrabands seized

Dehradun police seized a big haul of contraband meant to be supplied to youths in Dehradun and Rishikesh and arrested   eight alleged peddlers from Premnagar  and Ranipokhri on Monday.  Aside from 280 gram of  smack,  Rs 1, 20, 000 in cash and a pistol were seized from those arrested.

After being informed of some peddlers  from the infamous Cobra gang coming to the city to sell the narcotics,  Dehradun senior superintendent of police Nivedita Kukreti formed a team which comprised assistant SP/circle officer Lokeshwar Singh, CO city Chandra Mohan, Premnagar police station in-charge Mukesh Tyagi. The team while on the lookout for the peddlers spotted  a car  in Premnagar which was found leaving the place after the driver saw police nearby.    Police chased the car  and arrested five persons who were sitting in.  The accused have been identified as Sherdil Khan, native of Bareilly, Ajeet, resident of Dehradun, Pushpendra, resident of Karnpur, Shahid, native of Bareilly and Rajat, resident of Dalanwala. While being questioned, those arrested are said to have confessed to having brought the contraband from Bareilly to supply  them among students and employees  of industries based in Selaqui, Premnagar and some other places in the city. 

 In another development, Dehradun police arrested three persons from Ranipokhri and recovered around one kg hashish from their possession on the same day. The accused trio has been identified as Haripal Sharma, native of Rampur (Uttar Pradesh), Sanju, native of Bijnor(Uttar Pradesh), and Jitendra Shah, resident of Uttarkashi. Rishikesh ASP/CO Manju Nath TC led a team which conducted  vehicle checking drive on Monday. A two- wheeler was spotted and asked to stop. While frisking the trio sitting on the bike, police found  one kg hashish. During questioning, the trio is said to have confessed to having brought hashish from the mountainous parts of the state to be supplied among foreigners and students of schools and colleges in Rishikesh and Dehradun.  

Continuing drive against drug peddling, Dehradun police have claimed to have arrested 539 persons allegedly involved in supplying drugs among school/college students and industry workers so far this year. Informing, Dehradun senior superintendent of police Nivedita Kukreti said on Monday that the police teams assigned with the task  have recovered 86.971 kg hashish, 4.532 kg smack, 11.283 opium, 100 heroin, 70 kg ganja, 73.200 cannabis leaves, 128 poppy .
