The driver of a Hyundai Verna car was killed on the spot and four occupants
were injured when the vehicle skidded into a drain at Khelar-Harishpur Chhak in the Nimapara area early on Monday morning.
The car was carrying people from village Paikapada of the Badamba-Narasinghpur area who were going for a picnic to Konark on the Christmas day. Due to fog, the road was not adequately visible. Besides, the bridge over the drain has no railing on its both sides.
The deceased driver was identified as Sunil Sahu (22). The injured, identified as AbhayPanda, Krupasindhu Pradhan, Jitendra Rath and Narayan Mishra, were admitted to the Pipili hospital.
The Nimapara police seized the car and sent the deceased’s body for postmortem.
