The anti-talk faction of Ulfa has released one Arunabh Phukan, who they had abducted on December 15 from Jagun in Tinsukia district. Family sources said that the Ulfa faction had released Arunabh without any ransom. Arunabh, son to Tinsukia based businessman Dilip Phukan was abducted on December 15 by a four members group of the faction on the suspicion of being a spy of security forces.

It may be mentioned here that Assam police in association with Arunachal Pradesh had intensified operation along the Assam Arunachal Pradesh border areas in search of Arunabh. Police team had suspected that the abducted person was taken to Myanmar by crossing the Indo-Myanmar border in Arunachal Pradesh.

There was also a rumour doing the round that the outfit had demanded Rs 2 crore for safe release of Arunabh.

Commander-in-chief of the Ulfa faction Paresh Baruah later informed some Assam based television channels that they had taken Arunabh over suspicion that he was spying against the outfit on behalf of the security forces. “There is no question of any ransom demand. We wanted to grill him and so brought him here. He is a ‘my dear’ boy and we have released him in good health,” Baruah said.
