Next year will be as hectic for Prime Minister Narendra Modi as this year as far as his international engagements are concerned, reports DipanjanRoy.Chaudhury@timesgroup.com from New Delhi. Here's a look.
A Busy January
* Israeli PM expected to visit India, followed by a possible visit by the Jordan King. Modi and the Israeli PM are expected to address the Raisina Dialogue (India's premier foreign policy forum) here on January 16.
* While Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu's visit promises to elevate ties to the next level, a possible visit by the King of Jordan will showcase traditional balanced approach to India's foreign policy amid volatility in West Asia.
* Modi will be the fi rst Indian PM to visit Davos in over two decades of the World Economic Forum.
* This will be the fi rst time that 10 foreign leaders will be present during India's Republic Day celebrations as Asean leaders gather for Commemorative Summit.
February Engagement
* Modi is expected to visit the UAE & Palestine besides other countries in that region and host the French President and Canadian PM Justin Trudeau. International Solar Alliance Summit coinciding with French President's visit will also see a host of other international leaders who have joined ISA. Indian Ocean partnership will top French President's trip here.
Nepal in March
* A possible visit by Modi to Nepal during February-March for BIMSTEC Summit isn't ruled out provided a government in Kathmandu is in place.
Commonwealth in April
* Modi will travel to London for the Commonwealth Summit for the fi rst time in April
June Trip
* Singapore, which is the Asean chair in 2018, is also likely to host Modi on June 1 for the Shangrila Dialogue
* Modi might also travel to China for the SCO Summit
Later Half of 2018
* PM to attend annual summits as he is likely to travel to South Africa for the BRICS Summit; Argentina for the G-20 Summit; Singapore for India-Asean & East Asia summits
* There's a buzz that a top leader from China and Saudi Arabia might also visit India next year
* Japan will host Modi for the annual summit and India will host Russian President Vladimir Putin for the annual summit
