Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday attributed the Congress party’s victory in 2017 Punjab assembly polls to veteran leader Capt Amarinder Singh, and not to the party or Rahul Gandhi.
In Punjab’s industrial capital to preside over a meeting of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Department, Union Minister Giriraj Singh gave credit to Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh for the Congress’ win in the state assembly elections and also in the recently-concluded municipal corporation elections.
“It is not win of Congress party or Rahul Gandhi but win of Capt Amarinder Singh for whom Punjabis voted,” said Singh.
He added that if the Congress’ defeat in Himachal Pradesh is not considered as defeat of Rahul Gandhi, then win in Punjab can also not be considered Rahul Gandhi’s win.
Commenting on the BJP-Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) coalition’s debacle in the assembly polls, Singh said: “Whereas the question of our coalition losing in Punjab is concerned, we are analysing the reasons of our defeat in the State.”
He also refuted the allegations by the State Government that the Centre was not cooperating with it on several issues.
“Captain can never say this that Centre does not cooperate with the State. We are extending every possible help to all the State Governments. When Central Government is giving 80 percent share to the States in GST (Goods and Services Tax), no Government can claim that they are facing any kind of indifference from our Government,” he said.
