It's already been a very merry Christmas for four-time major champion Ernie Els.

The golfer tweeted on Christmas Eve that he received a "great Xmas present! @TheMasters Can't wait!" He'll play in his 24th Masters in April.

Last year was the final time Els was assured a spot in the Masters field after winning his second British Open in 2012. Winners of the British Open are guaranteed entry at the Masters for five years.

Els, 48, made the cut at Augusta National and finished with a 78 that left him 20-over for the tournament.

“It’s a wonderful place. It’s a great run,” he said at the time. “Who knows? Maybe I’ll win a tournament and get back. If not, it’s fine. I had a great time.”

The Masters committee can invite international players at its own discretion, according to the Augusta Chronicle.

In August Els played in his 100th major championship, alongside Phil Mickelson at the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow.
