Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special 2017: The worst celebrity dancers EVER

STRICTLY COME DANCING has seen its fair share of disasters over the years. Here’s a round-up of the worst dances and the stars responsible.

Ann Widdecombe

Arguably the most famous and entertaining of Strictly’s hapless stars, former Tory MP Ann, 70, was partnered with the one and only Anton du Beke, 51, back in 2010.

Her inability to string together any identifiable dance steps didn’t stop her winning over the hearts of the nation and making it all the way to week nine of the competition, much to the displeasure of the judges.

It was only when she came head-to-head with EastEnders favourite Scott Maslen, 46, in the dance off that she was finally eliminated, but not before she’d cemented her place in the Strictly history books with her jaw-dropping Samba.

Anton flinging the politician around on the floor whilst she was dressed in a Big Bird-esque frock is an image bound to stay with fans for many years to come.

Strictly Come Dancing: Who can forget Russell Grant be launched from a canon

Russell Grant

Astrologer Russell Grant, 66, provided countless toe-curling brilliant moments over the course of his eight-week stint on Strictly in 2011.

Partnered with brunette bombshell Flavia Cacace, 37, soon caught on to the fact that Russell’s inimitable charm and outgoing personality would get them further in the competition than his actual dancing skills, and thus his iconic cannon move was born.

Unfortunately, the week they chose to fire the portly star out of a cannon as a spectacular opening to his Jive was also his last performance on the show, as he was sadly eliminated that weekend.

Nancy Dell’Olio

Italian glamour puss Nancy Dell’Olio, 56, repeatedly came under fire from the panel with brutal comments in 2011.

Her ill-fated bid to take home the Glitterball trophy may have been overshadowed by so-bad-he-was-great John Sergeant, but Nancy’s infallible self-confidence made her terrible dancing all the more entertaining.

Failing to get through a single performance without a painfully awkward moment or two, she was eventually kicked out of the competition in week five.

Kate Garraway

Poor Good Morning Britain presenter Kate Garraway, 50, went down in Strictly history for all the wrong reasons, and is yet another in a long line of Anton’s less-than-stellar celebrity partners.

Kate managed to receive the lowest score from the judges every single week but one, and was finally booted out in week seven after looking to bluff her way through a hard-to-watch Paso Doble.

John Sergeant

Although John Sargent’s Strictly journey wasn’t the the most elegant, he wasn’t the worst dancer the show has seen.

His professional partner Kristina Rihanoff, 40, took the journalist, 73, to the dizzying heights of the programme’s hall of fame back in 2008, with his stomping Paso Doble providing a standout highlight.

Such was his popularity with viewers that he continued to make it through thanks to the public vote, despite consistently finishing bottom of the leaderboard.

In a controversial move, he withdrew from the competition in week 10, saying: “The trouble is that there is now a real danger that I might win the competition. Even for me that would be a joke too far.”

Scott Mills

BBC Radio 1 host Scott Mills, 43, made headlines with his total lack of rhythm and technique in the 2014 series of Strictly, proving unteachable even for future champion Joanne Clifton, 34, who went on to win with Ore Oduba, 32, in 2016.

Although, as a super fan of the show, he threw himself wholeheartedly into the sequinned swing of things, Scott will mostly be remembered for his hysterical Samba to Under the Sea, which saw him dressed in a crab costume and imitating the claw movements.

Gregg Wallace

Scott wasn’t the worst series 12 hopeful, however, which is a title reserved for MasterChef favourite Gregg Wallace, 53.

Gregg barely had time to set foot on the dance floor before his exit in week two, but nonetheless managed to make an impact with his stilted moves and distinctly dad dancing vibe.

As is customary on the much-loved BBC show, he also parodied his day job, dressing up as a chef for a cliche-ridden Charleston to the soundtrack of Hey Good Looking.

Strictly Come Dancing: Judy Murray always looked like she was having fun at least

Quentin Wilson

TV presenter Quentin Wilson, 60, is the proud recipient of Strictly’s lowest ever score of eight out of 40 for his Cha Cha Cha with Hazel Newberry in series two.

The standard of dancing may have skyrocketed over the years since his impressively tragic attempt, but his costume of an L plate plastered onto his back was a little too on the nose as as a bid to poke fun at his fumbling moves.

Judy Murray

The 12th series of Strictly was definitely one of the most challenging where talent was concerned, with Scott and Gregg having competition from legendary tennis coach Judy Murray, 58.

Anton successfully blagged Judy all way way through to week eight, with the pair beating several higher-scoring celebrities to avoid the dance off.

However, after facing a barrage of criticism from the judges for being too stiff, Judy’s inexplicably long journey came to an abrupt end after she found herself in the dance off Sunetra Sarker, 44.

Reverend Richard Coles

The latest series of Strictly delivered the goods in the form of Reverend Richard Coles, 55, who brightened up the first few weeks with his self-aware lack of dance ability.

Despite being eliminated in week three, the Reverend achieved Strictly legend status with his loveable personality and religious puns, none more so than when he descended onto the dance floor dressed as ah angel and innocently plucking away at a harp.
