Liverpool need to stop Salah leaving for Real Madrid, but Coutinho should join Barcelona

LIVERPOOL should be more concerned about Mohamed Salah leaving for Real Madrid than Philippe Coutinho heading to Barcelona.

Philippe Coutinho Mohamed SalahGETTY

Philippe Coutinho and Mohamed Salah are two of the hottest properties in Europe.

There is no surprise that arguably two of the biggest clubs in the world are chasing Liverpool’s deadly duo.

Salah is the club’s top goalscorer after joining from Roma in the summer and he has turned heads all across Europe.

The Egyptian also scooped the African Player of the Year award for his outstanding contribution for club and country, as Egypt booked their place in next summer’s World Cup.

On the other hand, Coutinho tired to force through a move to Barcelona in the summer but they failed to meet the Reds’ valuation.

He has since been part of Jurgen Klopp’s Fab Four but it is yet to be seen if he will remain at Anfield beyond the January window.

Coutinho’s professionalism and commitment to the cause cannot be questioned in the first part of the season.

Although he openly admitted he preferred a move to the Nou Camp, he has still given his all for the Reds.

However, if he got his dream move next month it would not be the be all and end all.

Philippe CoutinhoGETTY

Philippe Coutinho want to move to Barcelona.

Liverpool would pocket a British record fee for his services with Barca being forced to pay in excess of £120million.

Klopp would still have the likes of Sadio Mane and and Roberto Firmino in his ranks to frighten opposition defences.

There would be no doubt that the German would also receive a deep transfer kitty to then replace the Brazilian.

And with the likes of Alexis Sanchez or Mesut Ozil available on the cheap, who knows where that could lead too.

Meanwhile, Salah has proven that he is really coming of age.

At only 25 years old he still has plenty of room for growth.

His keen eye for goal is something Liverpool have not had since Luis Suarez.

Goalscoring forwards are a rare breed and once you get your hands on one you must do all you can to retain them.

Mohamed SalahGETTY

Salah is Liverpool's top scorer this season.

Liverpool would still have a supply line to the Egyptian without Coutinho, but they would have no clinical finisher without Salah.

Coutinho was in the Liverpool squad last season which finished fourth but they lacked a genuine goalscorer.

Add Salah into that mix and they may have had a shot at the title.

Real Madrid are likely to come knocking next month, but Klopp must slam the door firmly in their faces, just as they did Barca in the summer.

Cash in on Coutinho and add another creative midfielder with the profit - it would be madness not to do so.
