Speeding cars knock down 7-year-old, Jalgaon woman

Surat: Two persons, including a seven-year-old boy, died in separate incidents of rash car driving reported in Vesu and Pandesara in 24 hours ending Monday.

Nipun Gosai (7) was playing in the common area of the high-rise building Nandanvan Residency II in Vesu when a car knocked him down at around 7 pm on Sunday. Nipun was rushed to a hospital where he succumbed during treatment at night. His father Dhiraj works in a embroidery unit as a technician. However, Nipun used to live with his grandparents in Delhi and had come to the city for holidays.


Police investigation revealed that the car was being driven by one Aakash Advani. In another incident, Shobha Mahajan, a resident of Gita Nagar in Bamroli in Pandesara area, died of serious injuries after being knocked down by an unidentified car at near Shagun Villa Apartment when she was crossing the road. The car dragged her for some distance. In his complaint, Mahajan's husband Dattatrey alleged that the car also hit an autorickshaw which overturned and those inside suffered injuries.


Mahajan came to the city from Jalgaon in Maharashtra along with her husband and son few days ago in search of work.


She was working as domestic help at apartments on VIP Road. Police registered an offence against the unidentified car driver in Khatodara police station.
