On Saturday, the Saudi Commission of Tourism and National Heritage or SCTH declared that over 200,000 visitors took part in 42 different tourist activities and programs in the Riyadh region this year, whereas over 40,000 students took part in 33 school trips.
Abdul Aziz Al-Hasan, director of SCTH, Riyadh region, explained that his office issued licenses to over 975 different travel offices along with 1,407 accommodation facilities comprising hotels and furnished apartments, this year.
Side by side of tourism, Al-Hasan stated that Riyadh hosted six Saudi and international scientific missions this year.
Also, Al-Hasan highlighted the SCTH’s restoration and development work: 2017 witnessed the SCTH carry out work on the National Museum in Riyadh, the Visitors Center in Faw, the Urban Heritage Administration Center in Diriyah, the Heritage Project in Al-Ghat, King Abdul Aziz Palace in Al-Kharj, and 45 different “heritage locations” based in Riyadh region, in addition to “some historic mosques.”
The initiations of SCTH, led by Prince Sultan bin Salman, in the growth and development of the tourism and heritage sector and in emphasizing the cultural wealth of the Kingdom are in line with Vision 2030, Al-Hasan said.
He also said that the National Transformation Program (NTP) 2020 has recognized 13 initiatives to expand the tourism and heritage sector, draw investors, and boost in-land tourism.
