Ahmedabad, December 25: The swearing-in ceremony of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Vijay Rupani as Gujarat Chief Minister will take place at Gandhinagar Sachivalaya Ground on Tuesday. The ceremony will take place at 11 am.
Preparation has been going on in full swing at the Gandhinagar Sahivalaya Ground where Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP president Amit Shah and chief ministers of 18 BJP states will visit today.
Five days after BJP won the Gujarat state assembly elections with narrow margin the party announced that Vijay Rupani will be the next Chief Minister of Gujarat, while Nitin Patel will also continue as the Deputy Chief Minister of the state.
“The party has chosen Vijay Rupani as Legislature leader unanimously, Nitin Bhai Patel as the deputy Legislature party leader in a meeting today. Will inform you all about the swearing in, soon,” Union Minister Arun Jaitley said while addressing the media in Gandhinagar.
On Saturday, a delegation including state BJP chief Jitu Vaghani and senior BJP leader Bhupendrasinh Chudasama met governor Om Prakash Kohli with a letter staking the party’s claim for forming the government.
After four months of the high-decibel campaign in Gujarat, the BJP won 99 seats in the 182-member state assembly to clinch power in the state for a sixth straight term. Giving a tough fight to BJP, the Congress won 77 seats. It was the Congress party’s highest tally in the state since 1985.
Six of the BJP’s ministers and the speaker of the assembly lost the elections. As 27 BJP lawmakers were unable to make it to the assembly this time.
Rupani, Patel and other ministers had on Thursday submitted their resignation to the Governor after the BJP registered a victory in the Gujarat assembly elections.
Rupani secured a comfortable win from Rajkot West seat by 1,31,586 votes, which is the largest constituency in the Saurashtra region.
Several Union Ministers and other senior leaders of the party have also been invited for the swearing-in ceremony. Apart from this, many corporate celebrities are also likely to participate in the event.
