GUWAHATI: Dissatisfied with the investigation into an abduction and murder case from 2010, the Gauhati high court has ordered the Nagaland government to constitute a Special Investigation Team to take over the probe. In 2010, Phijam Naobi Singh, RK Roshan and Thounaojam Prem were abducted from a rented house at Diphupar village in Dimapur.

Their bullet-riddled bodies were found in Assam a week later. A year later, Nagaland Police submitted its final report in the case, saying that though the incident was found to be true, no clue was to be found. Phijam's brother then moved the court, seeking its intervention.

"Considering the unsatisfactory manner of the investigation carried out by Diphupar police in Dimapur, the case needs to be further investigated and for this purpose, the investigation should be conducted or handled by higher functionaries of the state. The court directs the commissioner/secretary of home department, Nagaland to constitute a SIT within two months. The SIT shall proceed with the further investigation of the case and take it to its logical conclusion," the court order said.

The SIT has to be headed by an officer above the rank of SP. The high court also asked the army to provide assistance to the SIT in the case. "In the event as several witnesses have to be summoned from other neighbouring states, adequate security should be provided to them," the court order said.
