Coutinho is a top target for the Nou Camp club and they could launch a bid in January.

Barcelona failed with three bids in the summer as Liverpool stood firm and refused to sell.

And the moment may now have passed for a deal to be done, with Transfer Window podcast Duncan Castles saying Barca are not as keen on Coutinho as they have been in the past.

“Barcelona’s interest in the player isn’t as strong as it was in the summer,” he said.

“They made it clear they don’t want to spend the same amount of money on him”

“They made it clear they don’t want to spend the same amount of money on him which isn’t a surprise given they’ve just handed Lionel Messi the biggest contract ever in football and had to give him a huge signing on fee on top which they weren’t expecting too and they are about to lose Javier Mascherano to China which means they’ve got to buy a centre-back in January.

“The resources are a bit limited.

“They don’t want to go above €100m (£91m) including bonuses for Coutinho, but Liverpool are still asking for €140m for him.”
