Sanjeeb Festival at DU today

Today marks the 53rd birth anniversary of lyricist, composer Sanjeeb Choudhury. To mark his birth anniversary the Sanjeeb Festival will be held for the sixth annual time. The festival will start at 4pm at TSC of University of Dhaka and will end by 9pm. Band Dolchut which was founded by Sanjeeb and Bappa Mazumder will not be performing today unlike previous editions of the festival. However many other followers of Sanjeeb in the music industry will hit the stage today, musician Joy Shahriar one of the key organisers of the fest has confirmed. Amongst today's performers are artistes like Joy Shahriar himself alongside Tarun, Shandhi, Shuvo, Shovvota. On the other hand, bands Chitkar, Gaankabi, Orjon, Sina Hasan and Bangla 5, Purple Rain, Anuran, Khepa and Dhaka University Cultural Society will render group compositions remembering Sanjeeb.
Sanjeeb after founding Dolchut with Bappa composed four albums with the band. He also has a solo album for himself under the title Shwapnobaji. Alongside Bappa he voiced for Shah Abdul Karim's famous song "Gari Chole Na Chole Na." In the 90s Sanjeeb was spending his university days when he penned many poems against the then military leadership. He was also a journalist. After graduating from the journalism department of University of Dhaka he joined Ajker Kagoj and later shifted to Bhorer Kagoj. He was also the editor of Istikutum and Pathok Forum. Sanjeeb died in 2007 from brain disorders.
